Color Obsessions: Part two

So as I promised in my last blog post I wanted to go over some important terms learned in my color theory class.  The terms analogous, complementary, split complementary, triad, tetrad, monochromatic are terms used to describe harmonious color schemes that use simple rules to create harmonious relationships.

Analogous is a color scheme which uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the Color Wheel.  It uses at least two but no more than five consecutive colors on the wheel.

Here is a view of a design by Tobi Fairley.   Her use of color is fresh and simple.  Here is her take on an analogous color scheme.

Tobi's design is an excellent example of an analogous color scheme using Yellow Orange ( the gold mirror), yellow in the pillows and green in the chairs, pillows and accessories.  Simple, Fresh and Elegant!!

Here are some great websites to further research color:

Donald Kaufman Color

Next blog will be some examples of a Complementary scheme which may sound easy....but think about it for a minute.... the complement of Red is Green.  I don't know about you but Red and Green look great in nature and on Stop lights.......I wonder if they will look good in a room.
