Day 15 of 31 days of prepping for the Holidays - Caliente

Caliente!!

Isn't that a great word!!

It also happens to be the accent color I will be introducing into my kitchen.

Benjamin Moore Caliente

My husband (the client) is still on the fence about the color on the walls.

Benjamin Moore Cedar Key

I am hoping that when I introduce this accent color in a couple of strategic spots it will tie everything together.

Otherwise......there will be a whole lot more painting in my future.

As for progress the master bathroom ceiling has been textured, primed and painted.

I also painted all the cedar paneling

Linen White

Benjamin Moore Linen White

And I can say that the master bathroom is looking mighty fine.

Pictures will be posted tomorrow.

We are definitely making

PROGRESS!!

YIPPEE!!!!

Day 14 of 31 days of prepping for the holidays - Survival list

It is FRIDAY!!   I am 14 days through this commitment of blogging for 31days straight.   YIPPEE!!

So today I am reminded that we live in the mountains and because of that there are certain things you need for
survival.

The winters are cold!!

So because it can get
COLD
up in these mountains. And because we also want our
twenty
plus guest headed our way for the holidays to be
WARM
we had two cords of wood delivered.

One cord...two cords.....
I really wasn't sure what that meant.
But after it was delivered and stacked I realized it meant a whole lot of
WOOD.

This is one cord on the front deck.  :)

This is the second cord downstairs on the back patio.

So how big is a cord of wood?

BIG!

A cord of wood is 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by 8 feet long.

While I was admiring all that wood the sun was setting.

Oh I digress once again....back to what is the most important thing on the

SURVIVAL LIST

That would be a

TEQUILA GIMLET

TGIF

everyone!!!!

Day 13 of 31 days of prepping for the holidays - Cross it off the bucket list.

I started the day feeling tired and just the teensiest

OVERWHELMED.

All day I kept hearing tick...tock...tick...tock

I need to get my head screwed on straight and come to terms with the fact that what gets done....gets done...and be satisfied with that.

Don't get me wrong we have accomplished a lot.  It is late in the day and my husband is still painting the base and crown in the kitchen. He is about 95% done.  I spent the day on the darn master bathroom ceiling.  It took a lot longer than I had anticipated and to be honest I really didn't want to
LEARN
how to texture a ceiling.

I was assigned the texture job because......well....lets just say sometimes I just need to keep my mouth shut.
But the point is I did texture that damn ceiling.

I didn't want to do it.  It was like being in gym class and being required to jump off the
HIGH DIVE.

I didn't want to do it but I had to do it pass the test.
So today I passed the test.

I can cross this off the bucket list
  • Texture the master bathroom ceiling.

Day 12 of 31 days of prepping for the Holiday - All work and no play

All work and no play

(makes Deb a dull girl)

Today I am reminded why I chose to move to the mountains.

On my morning walk as I contemplate the day ahead of me
I give thanks
for the beautiful world I live in.

Weekly Wowzers - Big impact for SMALL CHANGE

It is weekly
Wowzers.

This week is about how you can make big impact with small change....as in
LESS MONEY....ON A BUDGET....
OR AS THE SAYING GOES
FOR A SONG!!

You should know that I don't purchase anything for my home....and I mean anything
 unless it is on
SALE!

My favorite place to find amazing things for my home is
CONSIGNMENT CENTERS!
Of course then there are antique stores, garage sales, clearance centers and last but not least the
INTERNET!!

As I look around my house I have the following items that have been purchased from one of the above mentioned places.

China hutch, living room rugs, art work, dressers, kitchen island, chairs, media stand, dining room chairs, bar stools, headboard, living room couch, family room couch, houndstooth chair, end tables, mirrors, bedroom set, china, sofa table, lamps

Ok so I think you get the idea.

Hey don't get me wrong I would love to just walk in and never check a price tag and just buy it......
But I just can't do that especially when I know that if I do a little leg work...or finger work....I will find that item for less.

I thought I would share with you a few of my recent purchases.
  • A 12 piece place setting of BLOCK china and as a Bonus it also included several serving bowls and platters purchased at a garage sale.
$70.00

  • An upholstered king size headboard accented with nail studs.  The fabric is a faux black silk dupioni.

$365.00
  • Wing back chairs. Upholstered in dark grey fabric with nail head trim.
$475.00

Everything in this living room was purchased
ON SALE
1. Leather couch - clearance center  2. Leather ottoman - internet  3. End table - consignment center      4. Rug - clearance center 5. Mirror - clearance center 6. Lamp - consignment center

Bottom line I like to keep as much money in my own pocket as possible because when I reach into my pocket and find that

SMALL CHANGE
IT REMINDS ME OF THE
BIG IMPACT
IT HELPED ME MAKE.

Day 11 of 31 days of prepping for the Holidays - Annie get your CAULK gun

Isn't there a song called Annie get your caulk gun?

What the heck.....where does the time go?

Yikes the list is long and my time is getting shorter and shorter.

Twenty days may seem like a long time....but when you have someone.....um........

NAMELY ME

adding things to the list

time gets
SHORT!

So today the hubby caulked all the moulding in the kitchen.

As a word of advice caulking really is the secret to create a painted room that looks

clean and fresh.

It takes a good paint job and turns it into a

GREAT PAINT JOB!!

What is a caulk gun you ask?

HELLO .....  I AM A CAULK GUN!!

Hello I am caulk....I go in a caulk gun!!

CAULK CAN SOLVE SOME PROBLEMS.

Some ........not all...

So the caulking is done.........and yes the room looks

GREAT!!!!

Day 12 of #31days tomorrow and also
Weekly Wows!
WooHoo!!!
Be sure to check in.

A guest post from Design Shuffle

Today I am lucky to have Susi from Design Shuffle as a guest on my blog.  Today is all about
GOOD MOOD COLORS

Hi, I’m Susi, a writer for Design Shuffle, a fabulous social media site that showcases interior designers and their work from around the world.  I am lucky to be able to visit some amazing design blogs as a guest blogger.  Today, I'm so happy to do a guest post about good mood colors.  Color has such a strong effect on our moods so it's important to surround yourself with colors you love and to bring those that can put you in a good mood into your interior designs.  Here are some of my favorite good mood colors. What are yours?

Colorful Interior Design

Pops of bright color, like yellow, can lighten the mood of a room.  This room shows that a few spots of good mood colors change the mood of the space.

Colorful Bedroom Design

Orange and cream are a happy color combination that can inspire a good mood. Used in the bedroom, they are a cheerful way to wake up.

Tropical Bedroom Design

Blues with a lot of green in them are happy, good mood colors.  Maybe it is because they recall tropical waters, and vacation dreams and memories.

Yellow Living Room Design

Sunny yellow defines good mood color. Love it paired with loads of white; brown accents ground the yellow and white.

Lavender Living Room Design

Lavender is a good mood color that feels sophisticated too.  It mixes well with other happy colors like aqua and yellow. Don't relegate this one to the bedroom, it lends itself beautifully to living room designs.

Bright Living Room Design

This blue has a lot of energy to it that works with the bold colors in the rest of the room.  Energetic colors can bring on a good mood.

Green Living Room Design

Green in its many hues can be a wonderful good mood color. Lean toward sages and grass greens rather than dark olive to lighten and brighten your room and your mood. Pair it with contrasting pink, fuchsia or salmon for an energetic interior design.

Mixed Color Bedroom Design

If one good mood color is good, a mix of them is even better.  Love the yellow, orange and green accents in this white bedroom.  Because the color is in the accents, change them as the mood strikes.

Can't get enough of these beautiful feel-good colors? Find even more inspiration at Design Shuffle, where Boston interior designers, San Francisco interior designers and more share their work as inspiration to others.

Day 10 of 31 days of Prepping for the Holidays-ROSE colored glasses

I love looking at life sometimes through
ROSE COLORED GLASSES!!

So the painting of the kitchen is about 90% done.
My husband will be doing some caulking tomorrow to give everything a clean look whilst I am on

ANOTHER PROJECT.

I have said this before but I am always surprised by how color looks under different lighting.
Of course this time is no different and since I have had LOTS of experience in this phenomena
I wasn't surprised to see some different HUES emerge in different areas of the room.

My husband spends a lot of time in the kitchen and because of this he is the
CLIENT.

The client...(My soul mate) has expressed some concern about the pinky undertone of the paint.
Now while I often accuse him of wearing
ROSE COLORED GLASSES
he was indeed seeing a pinky undertone!

My advice was to be patient and it will all come together but bottom line if he doesn't like it then
I wont like it....that is the way it goes..and we will find a paint color we both like.

So here are some photos of the work in progress.

Can you see the pinky undertone?

Can you see the areas that have a not so pleasant green undertone?

So don't be shy.....let me hear those thoughts?

Questions and comments are welcome!!!!

Day 9 of 31 days of prepping for the Holidays - I love a SALE!!

Today to take advantage of a sale I had to postpone the continued assault of paint onto those kitchen walls.   So my husband and I were off to Lowes for the second time this week.  We went to get a small second refrigerator for our garage so that we have plenty of room for all the extra food and
BEER
that we will need to have for the twenty plus people we will be having for
Thanksgiving and Christmas.

While we were checking out the small refrigerators my husband who is a magician at what he calls
FUZZY MATH
did some calculations.

That led to the conclusion that for a few dollars more.....(well okay a little more than a few dollars)
we could move our existing fridge into the garage and  get a bigger refrigerator for the kitchen that is more energy efficient and of course
 prettier!!
And well you know how I like pretty!!   So the decision was made to abandon our original plan and get one of the new french door style freezer below refrigerators.
Ah .....meet our new refrigerator.

So while were waiting for them to check inventory I happened to wander over to the gas ranges and showed one to my husband that I had discovered on one of our previous visits to the store.

My husband loves to cook and we are at the moment cooking on a 1980 Jenn-Air that takes forever to heat up.   We both stood in front of this gas range and admired all the included features.  Five burners, two ovens, a pancake griddle.......My heart was going pitter patter!!
Then the very nice sales associate pointed out that they were having an incredible sale that was an additional 15% off the sales price.

WOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY WE COULD SAVE????

So when they came back to tell us the refrigerator we wanted was in stock....we had them check on the range....and of course YIPPEE....it was in stock.
So meet my new range!!

That lower drawer is an oven that will be just perfect for some hearty fall casseroles!!

As we were walking to our car I was reviewing our receipt I noticed that we were also entitled to a Rebate!!!
WOW....I mean this was getting better and better.....then I noticed that if you bought
THREE APPLIANCES
the rebate tripled!!!!

What are you kidding me.....I mean we do need a new dishwasher......
SOOOOOOOO
meet my new dishwasher

So if any of you need my shopping services let me know........
I bet I can save you a boat load of money!!!  (wink..wink)
